Allowing or Controlling

Writer's picture: Christina De PaoliChristina De Paoli

Most of my content comes from conversations that I have with people in my life and this is no different.

I thought I'd start this blog to share some of my ponderings. I'm sure they will be as random as me, but maybe you can find some insights that may be useful to you.

It was about a week ago when I was discussing something that was outside of my control that was happening in my life and I was given one word as advice...

Allow

This word has been playing on my mind since this conversation, and when key words stick in my mind I always look up the definition.

Allow.

to give permission for someone to do something, or to not prevent something from happening

What do I allow to come into my life? What do I allow to happen around me?

And yesterday, began to ponder what is the resistance that I create that stops me from allowing? How do I describe that in one word?

And another word popped into my head... controlling

It was interesting that I found that both of these words resonated with me.

If I'm not allowing, then I'm trying to control.

Over the past few years I've become acutely aware that EVERY single time that I try and control an outcome I find resistance appearing. Funnily enough, it's as though I'm reminded that I really don't have control at all!

As we surround ourselves with all the pressures of life. See if you can take a moment to ponder.

What are you allowing to happen or to come into you life?

Adversely, what are you trying to control?

Are you successful in controlling, or is it easier to allow things/situations to unfold without pushing against that resistance?
